Actually I think acquiring BEAS would be a better bet for HPQ if they want to get into the enterprise software/consulting space to compete with IBM. IBM would have little to gain from acquiring SUNW - they are beating SUNW now in server sales and they already have the #2 J2EE platform in Websphere.

How about a MSFT acquisition. Interopability between UNIX/Windows has always been an issue for enterprises and with one company in control it could be made seamless. Perhaps a new Windows release that supports Solaris in binary format and VM compatibility between .NET and .Java ... scary.
