Version 7.0.1 of Adobe Reader

Ira,

<< Version 7.0.1 of Adobe Reader ... This version is a serious resource hog! I used it to view several documents and then closed it. I noticed my system was a bit sluggish, so I looked at Task Manager. There is AcroRd32.exe using 20% of CPU, 54MB Mem Usage and 78MB VM Size with no open application / use of it. Just the "Background". Killed the task...sluggishness gone... Anyone know how to make the background task die when the last document is closed? >>

I haven't noticed any sluggishness and I've been using it with XP Pro for a week ...

... and the AcroRd32.exe task is killed when I close Adobe reader.

... however ...

... v. 7.0.1 loads Adobe Reader Speed Launch (reader_sl.exe) in your start-up after a reboot. I killed it using the old and reliable Startup Cop. I then reinstated it in the startup because it seemed to have minimal impact. Weird part is, after the reader is initially launched following a reboot, it disappears from the task manager.
