Law enforcement should have whatever firepower they need. But the more firepower on the street (available assault weapons, legally or illegally acquired) the more the cops have to bulk up. Worst case, it could get like the streets of Iraq someday. That's when everyone will realize "damn, why did we listen to the NRA and let all these guns flood into the public domain. Now I'd better get one now too. We all need them. Every single US household needs automatic weapons."

See what I mean? Insanity. When I was growing up, you could go knock on peoples doors without fear of being shot. The NRA just passed a law in Florida which says anyone can shoot first and ask questions later if someone "intrudes" on their property or vehicle. What does "intrude" mean? Stepping foot into? Approaching? Giving you the finger? Could mean anything. See how out of control this all is.
