"I'm married to a Filipina and I lived in her country for years."

I saw that movie between heaven and earth I think it was called - and this asian chick walks into the super walmart and sees row after row of groceries and her head explodes because all she had ever known back home was the rice fields. Was that a hollywood oversimplification? I saw an interview with the woman the movie was based on - she became a strong independent real estate lady who met some of the other guys she knew back in the old days and they wanted to marry her - but she said she had changed since being in America - no need a man anymore - she had a couple kids from what I remember.

My friends in the military brought back several vietnam and filipina wives - they all said thier wives attitudes changed once they had been here in the USA for awhile - why is that? This was many years ago - things are probably not so different between the 2 countries anymore or are they?

I used to play table tennis with one of the champions over there and he always assured me if I would come visit he would fix me up with lots of sweet filipina women - he said they were the best. He was the nicest guy of everyone I ever met in college. Wish I could have found the time to visit and take him up on his offer.
