In general you are correct, I have to prove that I'm worth 3 times as much as "Suresh" in India. I have no problem with that.
My problem is when Cisco or some other company, doesn't check if US engineers are more productive (for their company), but blandly just look at the hourly rate, and decides that shipping the IP and development work overseas has to be a good idea, simply because the labor rate is lower there.
Thus, not only hurting the US engineers, but their own company and their shareholders (and the US in general, and their market in general too).
P.S. I'm personally no longer an engineer, I went into Product Marketing, so I'm not interested in engineering salaries for my own income sake. I'm interested in it, because it affects other things like Consumer Economy, or US savings rate, or Stock Market etc.
