Neo-Nazi slain - ONE-TIME KKK RECRUITER, MERCENARY SHOT IN HIS OWN APARTMENT

THE DEAN of Canadian white supremacists was murdered yesterday, shot to death in the hall outside his east-end apartment. Wolfgang Droege, one-time head of the racist Heritage Front, Ku Klux Klan recruiter, convicted drug smuggler and a member of a band of mercenaries who tried to invade the island of Dominica, was 55.
Toronto Police Supt. Bob Clarke said Droege was shot at 2:52 p.m. and a suspect briefly barricaded himself in the dead man's apartment on North Dr. near Victoria Park Ave. and Gerrard St.
The suspect, in his 30s, made at least two 911 calls asking to speak to his brother.
Clarke said the suspect and his brother did speak and the man surrendered without incident.

A woman with him said Droege had given up his links to the racist right.
"People do things in the past they're not happy about," the man said.

Droege 'loved triangle' probed by police

For years he stood for hate, but in the end notorious white supremacist Wolfgang Droege may have died for love. Police said today they had charged a friend of the notorious one-time leader of the racist Heritage Front with second-degree murder and that they are investigating the possibility of a love triangle.
