WASHINGTON -- Federal authorities say a dragnet code-named "Operation Falcon" has resulted in the largest number of arrests of its kind.

The Justice Department said more than 10,000 fugitives have been rounded up over the past week as part of a coordinated nationwide effort.

Officials said many of those arrested had been sought for violent crimes -- including more than 150 who were wanted for murder and another 550 who had been sought for rape or sexual-assault charges.

Authorities said officers from hundreds of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies took part in the effort, which coincided with Crime Victims Rights Week.
