If Prez Chirac was serious about hyping up the EU constitution, he would have called for former French Prez Valery Giscard d'Estaing to join his bandwagon.... After all, the much debated draft constitution is the latter's brainchild!!!! How come we don't see nor hear much about Giscard these days? Where is he? Busy refitting his newly acquired chateau???() Fact is, there's a lot of frustration among French elites as regards EU developments: the quasi-isolation of France in the Iraq crisis, the eventual dismantling of CAP (common agricultural policy), the ban on arms sales to China, etc., etc. No wonder the French have misgivings about endorsing an EU bureaucracy that turns out to be so hostile to/at odds with French interests....
