Hi John,
Saw a piece in the SF Chronicle today confirming the
NJ staph infection. The patient was infected with
vancomycin resistant Staph aureus _and_ vanco-resistant
Enterococci (VRE). VRE is one of the more "common"
vanco-resistant strains. It is entirely likely that
the vanco-resistance was passed to Staph, perhaps
through genentic conjugation.

Anybody else see the article on the resistant forms
of the bacteria that causes the plague? I'll see if
I can find links to these articles...
