Gentlemen, let the whipping begin 07:24 SUNW Sun Microsystems cut to Underperform at First Albany (3.96 )

First Albany downgrades SUNW to Underperform from Neutral following MarQ results last night. Services gross margin was lower than expected and operating leverage was weaker due to a lower top line. Softening demand and elongating sales cycles limit visibility, and Sun provided characteristically little in the way of guidance. The co acknowledged the shift to low-midrange offerings may be negatively impacting growth of its high-end products. Despite an improvement in costs, firm believes the co still needs to make significant reductions for its model to work.
