The NRA has a major extreme rightwing element and is also a lobby for the gun manufacturers. Most NRA members you'll see at one of their rallies are not Mom and Pop types, but fringe type militias members and gun nuts. Some of them are dangerous people. The NRA is not 4 million, but they are still an organization with way too much power and influence.
