Yes of course they can and are. And they are just as valid.

But your argument against the death tax is the same that can me made against the income tax.

Not sure we can quantify all the unintended consequences of a national sales tax. There are probably things we don't know that we don't know about that. A VAT is a prescription for disaster.

I would prefer to scrap the entire federal tax code and replace it with a vastly simplified version of income tax. Good luck to us all on that ever happening.
