Once again the fact do not add up to a logical or effective argument for your initial statement.

"I don't know why you would even consider it doubtful that the church does have relevance to many American woman. Tens of millions of them are Catholic, and at least millions of those are devoted Catholics."

Yes I realize I said that. Your fact does not contradict my statement. Your statement does not have to be false for my statement to be true.

To give you an analogy, its as if I said "American car companies sold millions of cars last year and obviously are relevant to the American market", and you argued that since the American car companies are not doing as well as Japanese and Korean companies and are losing market share that my statement was wrong. Apparently you don't realize that both statements can be, and are in fact, true.

Then after your statements of fact you add the opinion "It <the Roman Catholic Church> needs not to be so sexist and patriarchal." Even we could assume that your statement was true rather then just a disputable opinion, it again wouldn't be something that supported your original claim.

No if you want to change your position and argue for something other than your initial statement you are of course free to do so but you should do so explicitly rather than pretending that you are still making the same case that you did originally.

If you wanted to change your statement to something like "The church is sexist and patriarchal and it should change", than you would be making a different argument than the one I originally disagreed with.
