Folks use the liberal and conservative terms as some sort of litmus test.

They think it is a football contest. Right or wrong, I have to prove my loyalty. Even if my guy turns out to be a serial killer - he's my guy.

Ronald Reagen was a nice guy, had good intentions, but he was not the smartest guy on the block.

Jimmy Carter was a nice guy, had good intentions, but he was a micro manager who couldn't get anything done. There are times that you have to kick butt.

Bill Clinton was a liar and a cheat, but he allowed Robert Rubin to do on good job on the economy.

George W. Bush is a tough guy. He could lead the world into something super, but he's not into thinking too hard and dealing with complexity. He lets nasty and small minded (yes boss) people solve complex problems with sledge hammers.

Go figure.

Someday we are going to get it all together.
