OT: Sam, I don't mind sharing my portfolio because as you indicate as we get older we "should" move toward a more balanced and income generating portfolio. Now with that said, I must admit that I have more than I should in three biotech/medical stocks that skew my balance. But from my list you will see that I have a balance in energy, utilities, natural resources, and tax exempt municipal/corporate/school bonds. LNT- Alliant Energy ..4.0% (This is current interest income) BKT-Blackrock Income ..8.6% (These guys are good..and low key) BPL-Buckeye Partners.. 6.1% CMO+B- Capstead Mortgage .. 10.1% (Worried personally about real estate market) CRT-Cross Timbers..7.5% (Don't recommend..wide fluctation in stock price) DRE- Duke Realty ..6.2% GXP-Great Plains ..5.6% KPP-Kaneb Pipeline ..5.7% KMP- Kinder Morgan..5.7% (Excellent Company) NTX-Nuveen Texas Municipal Fund.. 6.1% PTY- Pimco Corporate..10.7% (Respect Bill Gross) PCL- Plum Creek -- 4.3% SO- Southern Company --4.5% WRI-Weingarten Realty--5.2% (His daughter is in jail(Fastow) but he knows how to make money) ETR-Entergy..3.1% (Might be my lowest income producer but I'm sitting on 350% capital gains profit) I also have San Antonio, Texas School bonds, Dallas-Ft.Worth Airport(DFW) bonds Houston Water and SWR Bonds, FAnnie Maes and MACS and FD HM Loan Mtg(GNMA). And finally I have Exxon(XOM) and if you want to know what a buy and hold position in one's portfolio will do then this is the classic example. My wife's uncle worked for them for a few months before he joined the army in WW II. During his short time with them he got less than 5 shares in their employee stock plan. Anyway my wife inherited his stock last year....and there was much more than the 5 shares.
