I hardly read an LA Times article anymore, and I certainly won't buy a copy of the paper, much less subscribe

They went too far when they so scurrilously went after Arnold; esp. breaking the "groping" story three days before the election.

that was the breakpoint; lost the moderates then, and the drop in circulation has continued

also, under their previous editor about six, seven years ago they forced out or into retirement all the moderates, many of whom were middle-class whites who'd been there for decades, the old JFK/Hubert Humphrey liberals.

They'd become too conservative for the way the editorial department wanted to go.

The editor deliberately brought in left wingers, as many of color, ie. Hispanic, as possible; their stated aim was reflect their changing readership

They forgot most of the immigrants don't speak English, much less read it

Odd since they published the factoid that 53% of LA can't read or write English; think they would've have known.

They are on their way to becoming a small press aimed at the West side of Los Angeles, which puts them in competition with the NY Times

The latter is the record of choice for those people.
