In all probability, Jesus was a mortal man, probably some kind of populist rebel king, probably married and kids, maybe more than one wife. And Mary was not a virgin.

The Bible was rewritten in the early centuries AD by church leaders who had a very harsh view toward women and sex. They made Mary and Jesus virgins, and Magdalene a whore. In fact, all women seemed to be either virginal or whores. There was little inbetween. They even changed Lilith in the Garden of Eden into a snake.

So did Jesus rise from the dead? Depends what you mean. Symbolically maybe, but biologically only if you believe in miracles. Since no one else has ever risen from the dead since it's highly unlikely Jesus physically rose from anything. However the power and spirit of his message of love did rise and kept rising. Unfortunately, few people grasp what his message really was, one of total charity and total selfless love for everyone including your enemies and for God. But what does God mean?

Evangelicals say Jesus is God. But he said he was the son of God. They believe God impregnated Mary. That would mean the literal son. But Jesus was probably speaking figuratively. Which goes back to "what is God?".

IMHO God is the inexplicable mystery behind reality and everything else. And does God have a message? Only if you believe in those who claim to be his messengers. Like Jesus, a man who probably existed, but was probably very different from the established descriptions of him.
