Have you evidence that he is not serious about philanthropy? I am not talking about the market in US stocks, the market in US dollars, the market in gold, or any other market that has a relatively level playing field. Go ahead, play, then you'll find out. He gets paid both ways -- when you invest in China with great optimism, and when you are bankrupt and cash out at a loss.
