Unless the Wizards start picking up on the recent surge in "owner equivalent rents" that makes up a large portion of the CPI, we are coming up on very tough comparisons, that might mitigate the core CPI some. Note that second half of 05 is a different story.

These numbers have always been bizarre and difficult to predict, but I would lean towards a benign CPI number here. In fact they may use it as a "surprise" rationale, to rally the market, and perhaps put the final top in on bonds for this move. Classic Pig Men engineering, and I'm sure this will be accompanied by "fear of the PPI and CPI number" going into Tuesday and Wednesday, especially if stocks continue to fall Monday and/or Tuesday. For my shorting trading purposes (very aggressive until late Friday) I am anticipating an A-B-C pattern within an ongoing bear market.
