I'm on THEIR side. It's a tempest in a teapot and it comes at a time when the scribes who specialize in football simply don't have much to write about. The last sentence below is the entire sum and substance of this rift between he and his friend Donovan McNabb and it needs to be taken in the context of the sentences that precede it:
'There are a lot of people who said that me playing in that [Super Bowl] game was an inspiration to them,' Owens said. 'Hey, the only person I was trying to inspire was myself. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. But why did I want to do it? To win a Super Bowl for the team, for the fans, for the city. I did everything they asked me to do. I played every snap they allowed me to play. I wasn't even running until, like, two weeks before the game. But I made sure I was in the best shape possible. I wasn't the guy who got tired in the Super Bowl.'
It's good fodder for former San Jose & Niners hack Skip Bayless of "Cold Pizza," and T.O. pot-shotting fame, and his ilk. Beyond that, it's rather trivial, and really hasn't riled many around here. The latest rehash from Skip here:

T.O. in the interim has taken a vow of silence, and we'll see if he can stick to that. He behaved pretty darned well in this city last year, and earned the respect of almost everyone here as much for non-game day as game-day performance as a result. One of the things I am interested in seeing is if T.O. shows up in mimi-camp and more importantly at the ad-hoc conditioning camp Donovan runs every year in Arizona. I suppose T.O., could claim a medical excuse, but that won't fly. If he heads down to Arizona, he and Donovan will recapture any chemistry that's been lost between the dynamic duo since the last 7 minutes of a pretty exciting Super Bowl that was won by the better coached team of two well coached teams, and the disappointment that followed.
If T.O. is a no show in Arizona, I'll probably change my tune.
I don't see the Eagles renegotiating T.O.'s contract right now, but I do think they will consider redistributing some 3rd year money into year two or at least guaranteeing 3rd year bonuses. He actually deserves that. Signing bonus aside, salary wise he is underpaid, IMO. Whether he plays here or not in 2006 will depend both on how he plays in 2005 and how he behaves in 2005, and Donovan McNabb will influence that.

That they did. As many as the Steelers, who in the 1st season I lived in steeltown were "about three bricks shy of a load" as Roy Blount Jr. once wrote, but when he amended his history of that season 30 years later he added ... "and the load filled up." If you had to name three bricks you could easily fill-in Swann, Stallworth, and Lambert obtained in the following years draft. As an Iggle's fan, one could also hope that Donovan McNabb turns out to be a Terry Bradshaw, or that gutsy kid from down in Monongahela, PA named Montana, who was always overshadowed by a loboy from Central Catholic named Marino, who never won a ring.
