The fact that we do boosts our infant mortality rates and skews the ability to reach conclusions as to meaningfully comparative statistics.

That, and also its part of the reason that we spend more than most countries. Obviously its not enough to explain all or even most of the difference but it plays a part as do similar difficult cases later on in life.
