mas, They can't adapt it, it's a dual fsb chipset with embedded cache coherency, i.e. incompatible with HT.

Not the FSB, but rather all the nice features it has, the ideas behind it. An IBM rep said it would be doable.

Also 4p battles will be pretty passe after thursday as this chipset will be competing against 4s/8p dual-cores and it will lose. Nice chipset, shame about the timing ;-).

At least until DC Xeon comes out. Without X3, DC Opteron would look a lot better in 4-way, and IBM would have introduced the 4-way Opteron they had ready to launch in May last year.
That´s why the timing is indeed unfortunate, but within a different context.
