I did think you sort of glossed over the number one export the USA has which is agriculture, made possible of course by cheap illegal migrant labor (different topic). I think you are wildly overstating the importance of California agriculture. In the big scheme of things, California - which is the major consumer of illegal immigrant slave labor - is just 13% of cash value of national agricultural output. Compared to the midwestern states of Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, etc., California agriculture is a joke.
