Sex offenders means a lot of different things, not just serial child rapists. It also can include someone who groped an unwilling person, or an 18 year old high school senior who had sex with his sophomore girlfriend. A teenage girl who shared naked pictures of herself (I think by putting them on a website but I'm not sure) was tried on child pornography charges (which could get her on the sex offenders list). A 21 year old who made an amateur porn film with his 18 or 19 year old girlfriend was also charged with underage pornography (it was legal for him to have sex with her but in his state participants in pornography have to be 21 or at least did at the time, I don't know if the law has since changed).

Obviously your not talking about such people when you say that sex offenders should be locked up for life without any parole. But I believe it is important to explicitly make the distinction . Also there are in-between cases which should be punished but not by life imprisonment IMO.
