A collapse in the consumerism in the West...can it force China to accelerate nationalism? View the US as "weak" and not wanting another Gulf war III? Sabre rattling by USA against Iran(China's ally) leads to China military intervention in Iran/Iraq? This is my scenario, but I've always been a doom & gloomer.
