No prob Tom :-)
I'm just having fun here. I've got no real personal issues with most here. I tend to get upset when I see posters who constantly blame the US or Jews or Blacks or other racial or religious group, for the world's problems or their own inadequacies, etc., and I've tended to speak my piece, making some internet "enemies." They ignore that I often post my own critique of the government, Sharon and other US allies. Fairness and objectivity are very difficult it seems on many boards. I actually spend very little time on the coffee shop threads and un-marked most of them.
In the Naked short debate, I've advocated that there be full investigation. I don't claim to be an expert but I want to learn more and want the facts out in the open not hidden so that only hedge funds, MM's or brokers have the facts. Is it a myth? Is it a major scam? If you follow my posts, I also post about crooked management, touts, vulture capitalists, etc. I've no problem with shorting and would like to see it easier to short legitimately, but not kept as a tool for the connected and wealthy.
It seems that my style gets some upset and as I rarely back down if I think I'm right, the give and take gets more negative in tone. I've been wrong and I've commended those with whom I formerly had disagreements, e.g., truthseeker. I often disagree with some of his issues, but he's been right at times when I was wrong and vice versa and he certainly puts a lot of effort into his work. Others just come along with 1 liners, in an attempt to pile on in a discussion about which they have very little knowledge or substance. It's hard for me to respect them and I will tend to be dismissive in response.
The only thing that really surprised me is the level of angst when the topic is brought up. If you look at the posts on the other thread and the boards formerly dominated by shorts, most attack the perceived leaders of the group rather than deal with the issue. I understand if touts are bringing up the issue that this may be material. However, the debate itself should be more about whether or not NSS exists, the extent and effect on the market and investigation and regulation. I guess I got tired of reading post after post attacking the people like Byrne because they spoke up or wrote an article. When I read the NY Times, I may agree or disagree with an article by an author but I don't spend hours looking for background to discredit the author. Seems to me that internet "articles" and message boards might enhance discussion if there were less personal attacks and more substantive discussion. But, of course, that takes some effort and it's easier to call names and I admittedly will often do the same, usually in response to another school kid LOL...
All of this leads me to believe that the issue of naked shorting and the influence of hedge funds needs to be discussed more and kept before the public.
But nothing personal. I've made a lot of money trading the past few years and this is a diversion that goes along with the trade.
I try not to initiate and if I do I will apologize. If others will do the same, you won't have any problems.
You've only got 15 marks here so I don't think many of us will spend much time here.
I'm willing to call a truce with all my good buddies here. I won't post to or about them and we'll see if they reciprocate. |
