Why did SOME Americans believe the Smearvets? First of all, I'm not sure that's at all true. Extremist Republicans believed it because they wanted to, but this is pure propaganda, not meant to be believed but to create doubt, fears, to blur the truth, to confuse people and make them uneasy.

They say some 50% of rightwingers believe Saddam attacked us on 9-11. does that make it true or justify the claims? No.
Same with the SmearVets.

Also remember, what the the Smearvets and Karl Rove really did there was just lie about Kerry, but create an image of bomb-throwing leftwing radical anti-war protesters just as they were waging a war. Combine that with "support the troops!" and the Madison Avenue false impression/result was "Kerry doesn't care about the troops". A total lie, but ebough to influence 50,000 people in Ohio.

It is John Kerry who just passed the Veterans Bill Of Rights. Bushies have slashed veterans benefits and were the ones who sent our soldiers into battle ill-prepared on a big lie. Kerry is a champion of veterans rights, whatever his motives. Bush on the other hand, is almost the opposite.

Anyway, I don't expect you to agree, just explaining how rightwing or communist propaganda works on the gullible minds of just enough swingvoters to swing an election.
