Do I have to beat you guys over the head with this ?? by its own statistical count, California Agriculture accounted for 13% of national agricultural output in 2003.

So in reality, 12% of the population of this country produces 13% of the cash value of food. Do you think this statistic is supposed to impress me ?? I mean, figs and grapes and pistachios subsidized with illegal immigrant labor and all you can fricking manage is to outperform your per-capita production by 1% Give me a FREAK'EN break !!

I'm not even going to get into whether this is sustainable because none of the supposed "top 8 out of 10" agricultural counties in California would produce ANY FOOD if it were not for irrigation which is slowly salinating and ruining the soil. I happen to have been raised in the #1 "natural" (non-irrigation dependent) agricultural county in the country, and that would be Champaign County Illinois, right on the jet-stream and it will still be #1 when California is one giant pile of salt.
