the donor is NEVER sent to the place where organ transplantation is to occur. The organs are ALWAYS harvested at the hospital where the donor's death was declared and are then (usually) air-lifted to the hospital where the donee is already in surgery, prepped and draped, waiting to receive the organs. As they say in real estate, time is of the essence.
Yes, sadly, it occurs all to often that organs, once harvested, are found to be unsuitable for transplantation, and the donee goes back to page one. - Holly |
