So....why did he get convicted of two murders?

Because law reflects politics as well as logic. The fetus is a human life in terms of this murder charge but it isn't in when abortion is considered according to the law.

In some states, the murder of the mother means that the fetus was murdered as well because it usually can not survive without the mother. That's why they might consider it to be a double homicide.

And let me point out that the murder was without the consent of the mother........it was an unlawful invasion of her right to privacy and her right to control her own body. Therefore it is not the equivalent of abortion.
