Third parties haven't worked in the US for many years, they just don't catch on well enough and fast enough ... a vote for Perot was a vote for Clinton, vote for Nader was a vote for Bush ... sad but true, a limitation of the structure ... parliamentary and multiparty democracies have their structure problems too, just different problems ... one thing about the US is it has a history of bipartisan efforts in congress, to some extent ... less so recently, it is said, since the wingnuts got all livid about Billyboy and polarised the layout
Both parties are whacked out on foreign policy [the topic of this thread, and a nice limit since i have limited minutes to type] - republicans have been led down this dominate-the-world path, one they've never taken before, and one that violates their old mind your own business principle ... there is illogic in this anyway, because dominating the world will be quite difficult without allies ... if you designate the entire rest of the planet as the Other and set out to subjugate it, then you set yourself up with an extremely tough row to hoe ... time to smarten up, get real, join the human beings
Democrats have provided no credible alternative ..... there, that's it, a summary of them ... too many of them ignore entirely some of the valid points used by the neocon schemers, thereby defaulting to them ... por example the Saddams and Mugabes and Pinochetes of this world, it really does shame our species that we permit them to run free as long as we do ... the genocide in Ruanda - where was Clinton's Albright, in the back rooms of Washington saying no we will not respond to Dallaire's cry for reinforcements ... some democrats will tell you, yes we must improve the UN, to spread decision making and responsibility a little wider, and broaden out a sense of enfranchisement, but have you ever seen a working plan for this from them, no you haven't ... so you've got republicans under the spell of some kind of speed-freak arrogant hubris, while the democrats sit around with their thumbs up their ass smoking a doobie and whining and flicking boogers at the republicans, rest of the world is watching, wondering wtf is up with this
Couple points only covered, limited time here ... in Canada i vote for the closest thing we've got to your republican party, canuck flavour of course ... politics pretty much like Lindy's 'eagle' repubs, as i understand that to be, except i don't share his visceral dislike of mexicanos, and don't expect the real eagle types do either ... by the way, canucks supported Wilson quite wholeheartedly, we absolutely do not support Bush, so pick out the difference and there's your problem du jour in foreign policy ... SI reps and SI dems are maybe well below your national average for intelligence, let's hope anyway, maybe there's something about the net that pulls down the overall signal-to-noise ratio ... there are a few who think before typing, and are able to admit flaws of the side to which they are partisan, but they are few and far between
So am i not Dave Dookkk anymore? ... thought i'd have to get used to that outta you people -g- ... i'm easy to know, mike, just read what i freakin type, if i meant any different i'd type it different .... later .... cheers |
