Thread (and Elmer), The report's remarks about Intel's capacity are interesting.

Intel increased ramping speed of 65nm. Also additional capacity is said to be necessary after "a prolonged period of capacity tightness" (p4). Also: "We continue to see signs that Intel's tier 2 and tier 3 customers are experiencing tight supply conditions of Alviso chipsets and notebook processors". Elmer, I'm absolutely sure you will conclude from this that yields must have been absolutely wonderful ;-).

I for one remain as dumb as to think that it's absolutely stunning that with all those massive 300mm fabs Intel is still capacity constrained, and that with Intel's Smithfield taking more die space Intel is not planning, i.e. not seeing any opportunities, for gaining market share THIS YEAR.

Also Intel raised gross margin for cpu products for 2005. This means AMD will not find much price pressure from Intel this year. My conclusion is AMD cpu rev will do rather well this year.

Regarding flash, as Pete pointed out, Intel rev declined Q/Q might now be in line with AMD's decline roughly speaking, which if true means Intel has not gained meaningful additional flash market share in Q1. Would like to see some more hard information about this though...

Regards,

Rink
