That is what real people do, John. Unfortunately that is not what governments do. Rising the taxes when a war comes up? Sure, "a temporary crisis rise only". Unfortunately governments have a great track record of converting temporary tax adders into a permanent state later.

Look at Great Britain in WW II, Churchill sure hiked the taxes to pay for the war. Believe Thatcher was the one finally cutting back on them again but I could be wrong here.

Hitler, by the way, refused to hike the taxes on the Germans to pay for the war machine but financed the war from taxing the industry and from the funds confiscated as he moved ahead. Hitler took care of the small people for a long time and thus maintained their support until things back fired on everybody. That was one socialistic component of National Sozialism.

Anyway, back to the subject, your idea is another great way to optimize the taxation in an ideal world. In Utopia.
