"General attitude in France is quite different from the "I am what I am" and "Fat is Beautiful" attitude in the US. People in France are very self-conscious about the way they look - men get facials and waxes, women are on high heels and pay a lot of attention to the way they dress. And of course they also pay attention to stay slim and physically attractive. Don't even get me started on the cult of body worship down here in the French Riviera" I think you exaggerate and unfairly generalize re the US (few of us, I think, believe "fat if beautiful"), but the vain, self-obsorbed "cult of body worship" you describe in France sounds at least as unhealthy, in its own way, as even your stereotyped American.
