Bob,
Regarding MOT, I hadn't seen the rumor on MacIntoch, but I tend to agree with the analysis on MacRumors, which offers another piece of email as follows:
In fact, a second Motorola employee sent the following note:
I am an employee for Motorola on leave at the moment, but I do know for a fact that the PowerPC chip is not used just to run the MacOS. While Apple may abandon the PowerPC, the chip itself will not be halted by Motorola. Several other products, far more crucial to Motorola's business use this technology. Almost all radio products (the largest sector of Motorola) use this technology in one form or another. I doubt the chip will cease to exist, as for Apple's use of the chip that is unknown. Although as a PowerPC costs almost half the Pentium and uses far less wattage, this would seem the ideal choice for a low cost NC.
The new PPC line has too much going for it. It just doesn't make sense to dump it completely.
I'll read the Rhapsody piece now.
