Unilateralism breeds isolation -- Bush moved to isolate us from allies by launching an illegal, unilateral war that was also an attack on the UN and an attack on international law. Bush destroyed the Iraqi government -- and failed to provide for civil law and order. The carnage in Iraq is a result of this. Bush also attacked the UN -- and Bolton is just the latest front in this attack. Bush attacked our allies -- "you are with us or you are with the terrorists". Bush has isolated us with every move he has made -- and with every attack.

If he bombs Iran, or if Israel takes that role, it will be the end of an effective transatlantic alliance and the beginning of the end in terms of the ultimate isolation of the United States from the rest of the world.

Bush has no precedent in American history -- call it neocon isolationism if you need a label.
