re: Long-term, however, you and I both know that AMD is on pretty shaky ground

Granted that AMD is more uncertain within context of tech sector but overall neither AMD nor Intel are very predictable over long horizon.

re: Intel gained a point in market share vs. AMD in 2004 .... Helped by the popularity of its Centrino

Considering the presence of AMD in a mobile sector or rather lack of such I was mainly speaking about desktops.

AMD is going to gain mobile market share going forward and both of us know that.

On a flip side, current absence from mobile leaves AMD very exposed which is not good for AMD.

as far as flash, I think that Intel lost a lot of money there but, again, on a flip side AMD is forced to go IPO in very unfavorable for that environment.

I do believe that if AMD would manage to unload flash and capture good portion of mobile then that would be a great success for AMD. And, no matter how strange it sounds, that would be great for Intel as well. Intel would still remain a dominant player but the price war would be over.
