Alex Brown initiated coverage of the sector.Only CDN a buy rating. Friday September 5 12:15 PM EDT RESEARCH ALERT - Design software companies started NEW YORK, Sept 5 (Reuter) - BT Alex.Brown said on Friday it started coverage on the shares of various electronic design automation software companies, including Cadence Design Systems Inc (CDN) with a buy rating. BT Alex.Brown said it started Mentor Graphics (MENT) and Avant Corp(AVNT - news) with market perform ratings. Further details were not immediately available. Cadence stock added 9/16 to 48-3/4, Mentor stock rose 1/8 to 12 and Avant rose 1/2 to 33-1/2.
