There was an interview yesterday on CBC radio with somebody from the Sea Shepherd society [Patrick Watson?], they are among other things dropping 'spikes' with blades on them, and presumably some sort of flange that will act as anchor, into the nose and tail of the Grand Banks ... these will hopefully dig into the bottom yet protrude and cut the nets of the draggers who devastate the area ... the 'nose and tail' are those portions beyond canadian territorial waters ... this guy was saying they hope to drop more and bigger obstacles that will provide shelter to small fish as well as prevent the dragging, which not only kills everything alive but flattens the bottom so that nothing can grow ... a lot of the ecofanatic stuff is stupid imho, but this i support, i think, pending evidence to the contrary ... tried to find something on the SS society, but their site doesn't support my ancient browser, neither does the New Zealand Herald, where there is an article about them, found by googling with 'sea shepherd draggers' or something like that ... cheers
