Intel Shares Climb After First-Quarter Profit Jumps 25 Percent, Sales Rise 17 Percent

SAN JOSE, Calif. Apr 20, 2005 — Intel Corp. shares rose more than 3 percent Wednesday after the chip maker reported its first-quarter profit jumped 25 percent and sales rose 17 percent, refecting the popularity of notebook computers and their relatively pricier microprocessors.

Intel said in Tuesday;s after-markets earnings report that its growth is expected to continue in the current quarter, with sales estimated to be between $8.6 billion and $9.2 billion. It also plans to increase capital spending in 2005 to as much as $5.8 billion, up from a previous estimate as high as $5.3 billion.
