In my limited experience as the dad of a teenage girl, I've concluded that Proms are highly overrated. There is this huge build-up, including the spending of obscene amounts of money on dresses, nails, hair, etc., then they go out to dinner at mediocre restaurants, go to a dance for a few hours, then come home, change into more sensible clothes and go to a party at someone's house.

Why not skip all the build-up and expense and just do the party?

(but then, I didn't go to the Prom when I was in High School).
