If the Asians begin to sell US Treasuries in a big way, it will depress their price. Therefore, the Asians will suffer huge capital losses. It is not in their best interests to have our paper lose value. They truly are in an interesting conundrum - damned if the do, and damned if they don't.

Personally, I think the USA economy over the next decade or two will suffer some recessions, but no depressions. The net result will be somewhat like the 70's when things were essentially flat for a very long time. The only way to make money in that market was to trade, there was no long term trend in either direction. Or you could find small emerging companies like WalMart that outgrew the overall market.

But, as His Dogginess just pointed out, the secret is simple - buy low and sell high.

Best to all,

JRH
