Bolton Accuser Lying?

Blogs for Bush

Might be. Recall that a Ms. Melody Townsel is claiming that Bolton chased her through a hotel hallway and threw things at her in a fit of rage. National Review Online gets some inside dope on this:

<<<

Just talked to Jayant Kalotra the head of the company Vienna, Va.-based IBTCI, which employed Bolton and for which Melody Townsel was a sub-contractor (more precisely, she worked for a company that was a sub-contractor). Everyone seems to be fuzzy on the details here because it was a decade ago and it's all a little confusing, but this is his basic take. The company had a bullpen-style office in a Moscow hotel. Bolton and Townsel briefly crossed paths there (although the chronology of Townsel's story doesn't seem to make sense--I'll try to post more on that later). Now, remember she alleges Bolton chased and threw things at her at that hotel. Kalotra says, "We had several people living in that hotel, and got weekly reports. We would have heard about something like that." He says that he was "astounded" to see her story in the newspaper. "I had never heard of that." He says, "Mr. Bolton had never spoken to any of our employees in Moscow or Washington even firmly. He was a very correct individual to work" with. More: "I told him he would follow the rules of IBTCI and he was very respectful of that." Asked if he believes Townsel, he says, "I don't. It's a small company and we hear of these things. I didn't know or hear of anything like that."

This vendetta against Bolton starts to take on the look and feel of the Clarence Thomas hearings; allegations of years-ago actions raised at the last minute to (a) delay things and (b) perhaps get a GOPer or two to jump ship, thus sinking the nomination. Didn't work in the Clarence Thomas case, though it did manage to make a big media circus out of our judicial nominating process (thanks, Democrats). Just as we had to back Delay because the charges were spurious, so we have to back Bolton...this man is being slandered by Democratic operatives in the service of a tiny, leftwing minority who simply hate John Bolton.
