HAUPPAUGE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 14, 2005--Orbit International Corp., a military defense electronics supplier, today announced it has received a new contract award for approximately $400,000 from General Dynamics Canada, Ltd. for the initial production requirement for Commander's Display Units and Central Control Panels that will be integrated into the Mobile Gun System vehicle. The contract was received and will be performed by Orbit's newly acquired subsidiary, Tulip Development Laboratory, Inc. ("Tulip"), located in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Delivery of the units is expected to commence in the current quarter and continue through the first quarter of 2006. The customer has indicated that follow-on orders are expected although exact quantities and the timing of the release of these orders are unknown at the present time. The Mobile Gun System (MGS) is a variation of the LAV III that will be produced for the Interim Armored Vehicle Stryker program. The Stryker MGS was developed as a light weight vehicle able to be rapidly deployed using the Lockheed C-130 Hercules aircraft while still carrying the same 105mm gun tube as the one on the original M-1 Abrams tank. The principal function of the MGS is to provide support to assaulting infantry on short notice.
Richard Hetherington, Chief Operating Officer of Tulip, commented, "The MGS Vehicle is an important component to the new Rapid Deployable Divisions of the US Army. We are excited to be given the opportunity to participate in this vital program. Both components, which we are designing and manufacturing, are capable of surviving extreme operational specifications, including a Nuclear, Biological or Chemical (NBC) attack on the MGS vehicle. This contract is a continuation of Tulip's success in providing customers with reliable NBC compatible keypanel solutions, similar to our previously designed configurations that have supported the M1-A2 Tank and the Defense Advanced GPS Receiver (DAGR) programs. This award adds to our growing backlog of NBC compatible keypanels."
Dennis Sunshine, Chief Executive Officer of Orbit, added, "We are extremely encouraged by the new business opportunities being pursued by our Company and we are highly confident that many of the proposals we are pursuing will come to fruition. The addition of Tulip not only expands our customer and product base, but it also gives our Company added technical and operating capabilities to support new customer requirements." |
