Ok. These are some of the reasons I took ‘conversion’ off my to do list.

First, John wrote with power, authority, and conviction; but I don’t believe the writings of John are much more than John’s personal enthusiasm. Second, even if they had been inspired, I figure the guidance of Jesus was always via parabolic teachings for the individual and his/her heart. I find the organized religion of Catholicism a great stretch from those simple quotes I posted earlier.

However, I still might consider the thing as actually being inspired, directed, supported, and protected by God, if not for the obvious flaws of the priesthood who have been granted the moral authority of God. Since I have no problem discerning from my own heart the difference between moral goodness and badness, why in the world would I let a corrupt priesthood intervene?

Finally, I don’t get people like you. You obviously have thought this through and find the church to be less than perfect. Well at least you don’t believe it is. It is simply another authority in the world that is corrupt. You know it but claim faith in it. I can’t quite grasp a personal understanding of such contradictions, though I know they are common.
