Probably they engage in futures trading themselves to lock in prices, and mabye they even get into hedging their positions. But still....

But even locking in prices with futures, I just can't see how, for example, the airline and trucking industries can absorb fuel costs that are doubling every two years. Eventually increased costs must be passed on to consumers, in which case it would be inflationary.
