It is not hate speech in my opinion. I would agree that it is provocative. This is a discussion board, after all. Animal rights activists do not lessen the horror of the Holocaust by pointing out that chickens are treated the same way. They are trying to make people think about what kind of agony a chicken goes through before you eat it. Chickens, and other animals, are intelligent, capable of advanced problem solving and also of experiencing all the basic emotions you feel. Why should they endure the torture we meet out? And calling them "foul", while technically correct, simply creates distance so you don't have to think about eating someone who is very much like you and has the same basic life experience that you do, and as your pets do.
