HYBRID POWER
PART II: By MJ

In the Forbes article of April 11, 2005 by Peter W. Huber and Mark P. Mills a list of American stocks that will fuel, pun intended, these changes was given. As Huber and Mills expressed-----these are the companies that will use “silicon” to do for power what silicon has already done for logic in vehicles. Most of these already have had good moves and most show positive price to earnings ratios---rare in stocks that are innovative.

CREE
DIODES
FAIRCHILD SEMICONDUCTOR INTL
INFINEON TECHNOLOGIES
INTERNATIONAL RECTIFIER
IXYS
ON SEMICONDUCTOR
SILICONIX (80% owned by VISHAY)

Also, mentioned were the major USA Suppliers of Drivetrain Assemblies
And the array of automotive peripherals. (These were mentioned as the old
line firms that have a chance to reinvent themselves.)

DELPHI
VISTEON
LEAR
DANA EATON
ARVIN MERITOR
TRW AUTOMOTIVE

A third category: Foreign Competitors:

Toshiba
Mitsubishi: Has a joint venture called Powerex with General Electric

It appears that the first profits are in the innovations led by the companies above and not in the GM‘s and Fords.

I would suggest that the automobile companies that embrace these innovations the soonest and prove their early viability in the consumer market will also be a place to invest.
