I will tell you this, in my parents home are photos of them with both Billy Graham and Pope John Paul. Other than that, it's none of your business.
My view of a "good Christian" is someone who never seeks to profit from it personally, forgives his enemies, strives hard never to be a hypocrite, is very giving and chartiable, does not hate or despise anyone and does not try to force his/her views on anyone else. The latter would relate to politics, as when churches organize politically, they cross the line.
To me, Ralph Reed, Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell types are sinners. They are power hungry, intolerant, hateful and greedy. Same goes with Delay though he's not a man of the cloth.
Power is tempting, but seeking more and more power (or money) is a sin for a man of God. So many are guilty of this though, especially in the evengelical religious right which has injected itself so deeply into our political system.
In the eyes of a good Christian, Jimmy Carter for instance, would be greatly admired and respected. Carter is the most christian of any leader we have had, and his good works have been performed without thought of personal gain in mind. Yet so many on the religious right join the Republican attack machine and vilify not only Carter, but our war hero leaders, like Kerry, McCain and Cleland, all good men worthy of deep admiration whether you agree with all their positions or not. |
