FDR was very much loved by the left. He was so morally corrupt that he violated the understanding that every President before had acceded to not to pursue a third term (or a forth). He was hated enough for it that he inspired a Constitutional Amendment.

He was certainly no economic genius. He probably caused no worse of an economy than any other President would have.

Some modern economists believe that demographics are the major driver for most economies. This implies that all of the Presidents are more controlled by their economies than in control of them. It certainly is a factor.
